Ukrzaliznytsia has signed contracts with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation for the supply of modern equipment. This will allow the company to set up its own production of critical parts for locomotives. This was reported to by Yevhen Shramko, a member of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, on his Facebook page.
Established in 1999, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation is a private American family organization focused on strengthening food security, preventing conflict, improving community safety and combating human trafficking.
"This is a historic milestone for Ukrzaliznytsia's Repair and Production division. For the first time, we have signed contracts with an international foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation (HGBF), for the supply of modern innovative equipment for the manufacture of spare parts," said Shramko.
The contracts are currently worth $9.2 million. Under their terms, UZ will receive more than 20 units of high-precision industrial equipment. Among them are lathes and milling machines, 3D printers and 3D scanners, thermal installations and other technological equipment necessary for the production of critical components.
The new equipment will allow Ukrzaliznytsia to produce parts that have not been imported to Ukraine for more than five years and have no domestic analogues.
"This is not just a technical upgrade. This is a strategic investment in the safety, technological independence and sustainability of Ukrainian railways," emphasized a member of the company's management board.
