Denmark tightens control over oil tankers to combat Russia's "shadow fleet"

Denmark is tightening control over oil tankers passing through its waters to combat Russia's "shadow fleet". This is stated in the statement of the country's government.
Denmark will more closely inspect tankers near the Skagen Red anchorage in Olbeck Bay (Northern Jutland) due to the increased activity of old ships transporting sanctioned oil through the country's waters.
The Danish Maritime Administration, in cooperation with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, will conduct environmental inspections of ships to ensure that they comply with environmental regulations.
In particular, it concerns waste management, availability of certificates for disposal, ballast water, scrubber water discharge, and compliance with fuel requirements.
The Danish government emphasizes that the vessels of the Russian "shadow fleet" pose a great threat to the environment due to their poor condition.
"We have to put an end to Putin's military machine. The same goes for the Russian shadow fleet. We are using all tools"danish Business Minister Morten Bodskov said.
According to Politico, over the past year at least five tankers of the Russian shadow fleet were unhindered in European waters after leaving oil slicks.
- On October 4, Denmark announced repeated military provocations of the Russian fleet in its straits.
