"If not sanctions, there is another model". Ukraine to ask EU to impose duties on Russia

Ukraine will work with its European partners to impose duties on Russian products still imported into the European Union. This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga at a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday.
"There are imports of the European Union from Russia. Today, the EU's imports of Russian products have dropped to 1.1% in terms of the overall import structure. As of the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, it was 9.3%. That is a significant decrease, but imports remain," he said .
"We will work with our European partners: if these products are not included in the sanctions packages as of today, we will raise the issue of imposing tariffs," Sibiga emphasized .
Zelenskyy clarified that such a mechanism is proposed by some European partners close to Ukraine.
"If there are not all the votes in the European Union for sanctions, there is another model – the tariff model, when a qualified majority is needed," the president said .
- on September 24, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU may impose duties to force Hungary and Slovakia to switch to purchasing non-Russian oil.
