Netflix is exploring the possibility of acquiring the studio and streaming business of Warner Bros. Discovery, hiring investment bank Moelis & Co. This was reported by Reuters.

Moelis & Co is the investment bank that advised US film production company Skydance Media on its successful acquisition of Paramount Global. Netflix also gained access to a data room with financial details necessary to formulate an offer.

Owning Warner Bros. studio business will give Netflix control over some of Hollywood's most successful franchises, including Harry Potter and DC Comics characters.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos told investors last week that while the company has traditionally "built more than it buys," it is still evaluating possible acquisitions based on criteria such as the scale of the opportunity and the strength of its entertainment offerings.

"We have made it clear that we are not interested in owning traditional TV channels," Sarandos said during the company's third-quarter investor call.

This means that Netflix has no plans to buy Warner Bros. Discovery, including CNN, TNT, Food Network and Animal Planet.

  • on October 22, it became known, that Netflix is actively implementing generative artificial intelligence in its work on movies and TV series.
