Sunflower prices in Ukraine have fallen due to the collapse of the oilseed market

The purchase price of sunflower in Ukraine decreased by UAH 200-500 per tonne over the week to UAH 27400-28500 excluding VAT due to the collapse of world prices for palm oil and an increase in supply on the domestic market. This was reported by Electronic Grain Exchange of Ukraine.
During the month, palm oil fell by 10%, and over the past week, demand prices for Ukrainian sunflower oil decreased by another 10-20 USD/t.
In India, the difference between the prices of sunflower and palm oil increased to 200-220 USD/t, which prompted local processors to give preference to cheaper palm oil.
As of November 6, 8.729 million tons of sunflower were harvested from 90% of the planned area, or 4.61 million hectares, with a yield of 1.89 tons per hectare.
Last year, 9.684 million tons were harvested from 95% of the acreage, with an average yield of 2.06 t/ha. Due to excessive precipitation in the west of the country, part of the harvest was lost, so this year's total harvest is estimated not to exceed 10-10.5 million tons, compared to 11.5 million tons a year earlier.
According to the European Commission, in 2025, the EU will produce only about 8.5 million tons of sunflower in the EU. Although this will be 3% higher than in the lean year of 2024.
In the coming weeks, the market will be in a waiting mode for the sunflower harvest in the Black Sea region to be completed, and prices will change according to the updated balances.
- In July 2025, the share of Ukrainian sunflower oil in India's imports exceeded the share of Russian supplies for the first time in two years .
