Trump plans to ban Chinese airlines from flying over Russia on flights to the US

Administration Donald Trump proposed to ban Chinese airlines from using Russian airspace on flights to and from the United States. About writes Reuters.
Washington explains that flying over Russia gives Chinese carriers a significant advantage: shorter travel times, lower fuel consumption, and lower flight costs.
According to the Trump administration, this puts American carriers at a disadvantage because Russia has closed its airspace to the United States and a number of other countries in response to a similar decision made because of the full-scale war in Ukraine.
The U.S. Department of Transportation said in a statement that the current situation is unfair and creates serious competitive losses for U.S. carriers.
The ban, if adopted, will apply to Chinese passenger flights but will not affect cargo transportation. Airlines such as Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, and Xiamen Airlines may be affected.
The US decision could be made as early as November. Chinese airlines were given two days to file their objections.
- The day before, China announced new restrictions on export of rare earth metals which are critically important for American industry.
