Two men in Germany have been arrested for allegedly exporting goods to Russia in violation of EU sanctions, n-tv reported.

The brothers, aged 34 and 39, are from the town of Elde and are accused of exporting goods worth €689,000 to the Russian Federation. Arrest warrants have been issued for both men, and law enforcement officers have searched three locations linked to the case.

The investigation, which began in February, centers on suspicions that the men supplied pumps, valves, filters, and other equipment to Russian pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies via third countries since January 2023, thereby circumventing EU sanctions. At least 53 export consignments are believed to be involved.

  • Since the full-scale invasion, the European Union has imposed 19 sets of sanctions on Russia. The latest was approved october 23.
  • Russian banks and cryptocurrency exchanges, which Russia uses to circumvent previous restrictions, were also subject to the restrictions. In addition, the sanctions have affected organizations in India and China that are likely to help Russia obtain critical goods and technologies. The movement of Russian diplomats in the EU has also been restricted.
