Trump halts construction of Danish Ørsted's almost finished offshore wind farm in the US

Danish energy company Ørsted has suspended construction of an almost completed offshore wind farm in the United States due to administration interference Donald Trump. About writes german weekly magazine Spiegel.
The $1.5 billion Revolution Wind project in Rhode Island was already 80% complete and was scheduled to start operating next year, providing electricity to 350,000 households in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
The Trump administration, through the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), has ordered the construction to be halted for the second time in 2025. Officially, the government motivated this decision by "national security issues."
Earlier, the US president had already suspended the issuance of licenses for new offshore wind farms and criticized wind power as an expensive and unreliable form of energy.
At the time of the construction shutdown, 45 of the 65 planned wind turbines had been installed, and all the foundations had been laid.
Ørsted says it is considering all options to resolve the situation, including possible legal action, and is assessing the financial implications of the government's decision.
Ørsted, the world's largest operator of offshore wind farms, is 50.1% owned by the Danish government.
- August 11 Ørsted announced an additional share issue of 60 billion kronor ($8.7 billion) to cover the costs of the Sunrise Wind offshore wind farm project in the United States.
