Poland's PGZ selects strategic partner for production of 155 mm shells for 40 years
Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) has chosen British concern BAE Systems as a strategic partner for the production of 155 mm ammunition. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk, writes Rzeczpospolita.
PGZ is expected to buy the license to produce 155 mm ammunition in the coming weeks. The agreement is for 40 years.
As part of the cooperation, Poland will be able to sell shells to third countries. According to the plan, production is expected to reach about 130,000 shells per year within two years.
The cost of the license was not disclosed. Previously, PGZ received over PLN 2.4 billion state funding for the development of large-caliber ammunition production, part of which will be used to purchase a license.
"Thanks to this cooperation, the Dezamet plant will receive the most advanced technologies, which will increase the production of 155 mm ammunition," the Prime Minister emphasized.
BAE Systems CEO Charles Woodburn added that the technology transfer will significantly enhance Poland's manufacturing capabilities, strengthen its industrial base and supply chain reliability in an unstable security environment, and increase the country's contribution to the defense of NATO's eastern flank.
Thanks to the agreements, Poland predicts that by 2028, PGZ's 155 mm shell production capacity will significantly exceed 100,000 units per year. Currently, production is only a few tens of thousands per year.
- July 2 Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa signed an agreement on co-financing the project to increase the production of ammunition.
