President of the United States Donald Trump made a harsh statement about China and said that he saw no reason to meet with the head of the PRC Xi Jinping.

"Some very strange things are happening in China! They are becoming very hostile," wrote Trump on Friday on his social network Truth Social, commenting on the sharp strengthening control over the export of rare earth metals from Beijing.

In April, China, which controls about 90% of rare earth metals mining and processing, already sharply restricted exports, leading to shortages in other countries. After negotiations with the EU and the US, China introduced a relaxationbut has now tightened the restrictions again.

"Depending on what China has to say about the hostile 'order' they just issued, I, as President of the United States of America, will be forced to financially counter their move. For every element that they have managed to monopolize, we have two. I never thought it would come to this, but perhaps, as with other things, the time has come. In the end, while it may be painful, it will be very good for the United States," Trump said.

The US president threatened Beijing with retaliatory measures.

"I was supposed to meet with [Chinese] President Xi in two weeks, at the APEC summit in South Korea, but now there seems to be no reason to do so," Trump wrote.

As one of the measures in response to China's actions, he mentioned "a massive increase in duties on Chinese products entering the United States" and added that "there are many other countermeasures that are also being seriously considered."
