Ukrainian taxi service Uklon has entered the Azerbaijani market, the company announced on Wednesday.

"In recent years, we have been looking for and considering various opportunities to develop the Uklon brand in foreign markets. We are starting with Azerbaijan, where we are launching our operations under the Uklon brand," said Serhiy Smus, COO and co-founder of Uklon.

The company will operate an online car hailing service, to be available in the capital city of Baku, in partnership with local marketplace Umico.

The partnership will include a loyalty programme allowing users to pay for rides with accumulated Umico bonuses.

Currently, Uklon operates in 27 Ukrainian cities, and the company's mobile app has been downloaded more than 12 million times.

In April, in an interview with LIGA.net, Mr Smus said that Uklon would start operating in two new countries three to four months apart, and would enter another country with a partner.

In December 2021, Uklon was launched in Moldova for the first time, but a couple of months later had to be suspended due to the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine and problems with the partner.
