Car purchase and sale agreements will be available in Diia, a Ukrainian e-government platform, in September, interior minister Ihor Klymenko told Interfax-Ukraine news agency in an interview.

"Already in September, we are planning to digitise the entire process of buying and selling cars in Diia with the ministry of digital transformation. All you need is a seller and a buyer and two smartphones," Mr Klymenko explained.

Car purchase and sale agreements in Diia had been provided for in a government resolution adopted before Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The interior ministry's main service centre said the service would be available in the driver's electronic cabinet and on the Diia portal.

Per procedure, the seller and the buyer will have to fill out the contract electronically, which will automatically be submitted to the service centre of the interior ministry for checks against the registers.

In 2022, Ukrainians bought and registered 37,900 new cars, the lowest number since 2000, possibly reflecting the economic costs of the full-scale war.

Last month, however, 5160 new passenger cars were purchased and registered in Ukraine, a 14-percent hike compared to March.
