Volvo is the first in the world to integrate Google Gemini artificial intelligence into its cars
Swedish carmaker Volvo will become the first company to integrate Google Gemini artificial intelligence into its cars with the Android Automotive operating system, The Verge reports.
This was made possible by expanding the partnership with Google, with which Volvo has been cooperating for many years.
Volvo was one of the first to use Android Automotive, and now the company is first in line to implement Gemini.
It is noted that artificial intelligence will allow drivers and passengers to have "natural" conversations with the car for navigation, translation, finding places, climate control, or even asking questions about the technical features of the car.
Volvo positions this as easing the "cognitive load" on the driver so they can focus on the road.
Gemini will also be available for Android Auto systems in the coming weeks, but for cars with Android Automotive only at the end of the year.
Volvo will also become one of Google's reference hardware platforms for developing and testing future automotive technologies.
This means that Volvo cars will receive "new features and updates" from Google even before they are added to the main Android codebase.
- In October 2024, Volvo Car Deputy CEO Björn Annvall left the company after nine years of service.
