In the early hours of July 21, a Russian airstrike on Kyiv once again damaged Ukraine’s oldest McDonald’s, according to eyewitness videos shared on social media.

The restaurant is housed in the same building as the entrance to the Lukyanivska metro station, which also sustained significant damage.

This McDonald’s was previously hit on January 18, 2025, and fully resumed operations on February 13, nearly a month after being destroyed.

Despite repeated Russian attacks, the company has no plans to relocate the restaurant, stating that "our customers want to see us in Lukyanivka."

As of 9:00 a.m., one man had been reported killed and six others injured in the strike on Kyiv, including a 15-year-old girl. The victims suffered multiple shrapnel and laceration wounds. One woman was hospitalized in hypertensive crisis.

  • Following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, McDonald’s temporarily closed all its locations in the country. However, since September 2022, it has gradually resumed operations.
  • On June 28, 2025, The New York Times reported that by the end of the year, the number of McDonald’s restaurants in Ukraine is expected to surpass pre-war levels.
  • In May, McDonald’s opened its first locations in Transcarpathia — the last region in government-controlled Ukraine where the chain had not yet operated.
