Ukraine has begun developing its own language AI model. It will be presented by the end of the year
Ukraine has begun developing its own large-scale artificial intelligence language model (LLM), which will work in Ukrainian and take into account the national context, Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced.
He stated that on Tuesday, June 17, a memorandum was signed with Kyivstar, a strategic partner and investor in the project.
The developers plan to train the model on a unique set of Ukrainian data so that it understands the language, historical and cultural context better than foreign models.
According to Fedorov, the national language model will become the foundation for new AI products within the country, startups, investments, and the growth of Ukraine's economy.
The key advantages of the Ukrainian LLM are:
- quality (the model will be trained on Ukrainian data and will understand our context);
- accessibility (AI will be more accessible and cheaper for Ukrainian users);
- security (data will be stored in Ukraine and will be protected for the state and defense).
The first version of the Ukrainian LLM is planned to be introduced by the end of 2025. It will be available to government agencies, universities, scientists, public organizations, and businesses.
- In April, it was reported that the first online master's degree in AI was launched in Ukraine. Ukrainians will learn to work with artificial intelligence from experts from Google, Meta, Ciklum, and Intellias.
