Adnan Kivan, owner of Kadorr Group and Kyiv Post, dies at 62
Adnan Kivan, the owner of Kadorr Group and the English-language outlet Kyiv Post, has died at the age of 62, according to a statement on the Kadorr Facebook page.
"Today, the founder of the Kadorr Group, Adnan Kivan, the largest Arab investor in Ukraine, known for his successful business projects, social initiatives, as well as charity and patronage, has passed away," the message reads.
Kivan was born in Syria but had been living in Ukraine for many years. He was one of the largest developers in Odesa. His company, Kadorr Group, has completed 56 buildings since 2010, with seven currently under construction, according to the Lun portal.
He was included in the list of the 100 richest Ukrainians by Forbes Ukraine.
In 2021, a scandal erupted around Adnan Kivan when he announced the temporary suspension of the Kyiv Post newspaper for a reboot. This decision came after the businessman unexpectedly decided to create a Ukrainian-language version of the Kyiv Post, much to the surprise of the editorial team.
The Kyiv Post team, led by editor-in-chief Brian Bonner, resigned and founded the Kyiv Independent. The relaunch was entrusted to Luc Chénier, who served as the CEO of the Kyiv Post from 2016 to 2018.
Sevgil Musaieva, the editor-in-chief of Ukrainska Pravda, suggested that the closure of the Kyiv Post was related to pressure from the Office of the President on Kivan. However, the Zelenskyy administration denied this information.
