The Kyiv Commercial Court has begun consideration of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office's lawsuit to restore the legal status of the Svyatoshynsky Ponds lands. This concerns a cascade of artificial reservoirs on the Nyvka River, which were re-registered for the development of a cottage town. This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office.

Today, December 4, a preliminary court hearing was held in the case of transferring Kyiv's water bodies for development. According to the law, the Sviatoshyn ponds belong to the water fund lands and can only be used for scientific purposes in the field of fish farming.

Despite the established restrictions, preparatory work began on the territory, without changing its intended purpose, for the construction of a gated cottage community – 179 townhouses and 21 apartment buildings. Some of the ponds were filled in and the land was leveled. In 2022, the land was illegally re-registered as plots for residential and public development.

"Environmental prosecutors emphasize that the land under the Sviatoshyn ponds cannot be developed, as it has a special conservation status. It ensures water balance, water purification, forms a microclimate, and borders the Holosiivskyi National Nature Park," the Prosecutor General's Office stresses.

At the request of the prosecutor's office, the court issued a ban on any construction work on the 14.5-hectare plot for the duration of the case.
