The Cabinet of Ministers temporarily banned the export of sugar, according to the decision made at a meeting on Tuesday, its representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, said.

The ban is formalized in the form of a zero export quota for the period from June 5 to September 15, 2023.

The list of goods, the export and import of which are subject to licensing, and the quota for 2023 was approved by Resolution No. 1466 of December 27.

In 2023, by introducing zero quotas, a de facto ban on the export of the following goods will be established:

→ salt;
→ thermal coal;
→ natural gas;
→ firewood;
→ silver, gold, and scrap precious metals.

On May 12, the Cabinet of Ministers canceled the export licensing of most products, except for buckwheat and sugar.

In 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers also temporarily banned the export of sugar – from March to May.

In the spring of 2023, global sugar prices rose to an 11-year high due to reduced exports from key supplier India, as well as Pakistan and Thailand.
