U.S. investing $250 million in Ukrainian agriculture
USAID launches a new project, Harvest, which will provide $250 million over five years to vegetable, grain, and oilseed producers in Ukraine
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is launching a new project, USAID Harvest, aimed at supporting agricultural production in Ukraine. The five-year project provides for direct USAID investments in small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises in the amount of $250 million, said Deputy Administrator of the Agency Isobel Coleman at the presentation of the program.
This amount is expected to attract an additional $500 million in private investment, which will allow Ukrainian farmers to increase exports by $1.5 billion.
The first to receive assistance will be small producers of grain, oilseeds and vegetables to finance projects aimed at expanding exports, said Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Denys Bashlyk, who also participated in the presentation of the USAID Harvest program.
Investments under the new program will be available to farmers regardless of location, but the focus will be on helping farms affected by Russian aggression.
The presentation of the USAID Harvest project took place at the premises of the Agrico company, which built a potato storage facility in Semypolky with USAID funds.

A significant number of Ukrainian farmers are only surviving their third season thanks to support from USAID projects, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
