Australia lowers price ceiling for Russian oil and imposes sanctions on 95 vessels
The Australian government has lowered the ceiling price for Russian oil from $60 to $47.6 per barrel and imposed sanctions on 95 more vessels of the so-called "shadow fleet" of Russia. About reports Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Australian Foreign Ministry, lowering the price ceiling will help reduce the market value of Russian oil and limit the flow of money to Russia's war economy.
In addition, the country's Foreign Ministry stated that it supports a complete ban on imports of Russian oil and oil products from Russia.
Australia will also impose sanctions against 95 vessels of the Russian "shadow fleet". In total, the government has imposed sanctions against more than 150 such vessels since June 2025.
The so-called "shadow" vessels are used by Russia to circumvent international sanctions and support the war economy.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Australia has imposed more than 1,600 sanctions against Russia to prevent the financing of aggression and support Ukraine's sovereignty.
- On September 3, the European Union lowered the ceiling price for Russian oil from $60 to $47.6 per barrel. This decision was made as part of the of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia.
