Emergency blackouts hit eastern and central Ukraine after new Russian strikes
On Monday, October 13, emergency power outage schedules were introduced in several regions of Ukraine due to damage to power equipment caused by hostilities and Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. The information was reported on the websites and social media pages of regional power distribution companies.
Energy suppliers in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Poltava, Sumy, and Kirovohrad regions announced the introduction of emergency outages.
Emergency outage schedules are applied in critical situations when it is necessary to urgently reduce the load on the power system. Unlike planned outages, the duration of emergency outages cannot be predicted.
Power engineers urged residents to save electricity and avoid using high-power electrical appliances whenever possible.
Electricity supply will be restored once the emergency situation is resolved and the relevant commands are received from NPC Ukrenergo (Ukraine’s national power transmission operator).
Update at 10:35 a.m. — The Ministry of Energy reported that blackouts are also in effect for industrial consumers in the Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions. The Chernihiv region continues to operate under hourly outage schedules.
The reason for the outages is the difficult situation in Ukraine’s unified energy system following continued Russian shelling. On Monday, the enemy once again attacked the energy infrastructure in the Chernihiv and Donetsk regions.
- Power outages in Ukraine have resumed after a long break as Russia has once again launched massive strikes on electricity facilities.
- On October 10, Russian attacks caused a partial blackout in Kyiv, leaving a large part of the city’s left bank without electricity and water.
