Kyiv limits hot water supply in some buildings to prioritize heating
Kyiv has temporarily prioritized heating over hot water supply in some residential buildings, the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) said on Tuesday, stressing that the restrictions do not apply to the entire city.
The measure was described as a forced step caused by the consequences of Russian shelling.
"In order to restore district heating services, hot water supply has been temporarily limited in some residential buildings. The released thermal capacity is being used to restore heating," the KCSA said on its website.
According to the administration, restarting the heating system at low temperatures is technically challenging, particularly when the system has to be relaunched multiple times.
"This is especially the case when the system is being launched for the third time, as has happened in parts of the housing stock in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district," the statement said.
The city authorities emphasized that the measure is temporary and aimed at mitigating the effects of enemy attacks, restoring heat to homes, and stabilizing the energy system.
"The restriction of hot water supply does not apply to the entire housing stock of Kyiv, but only to buildings where it is technically necessary to restore heating," the KCSA said.
- Earlier, Maksym Bakhmatov, head of Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district, said that the Kyiv Combined Heat and Power Plant No. 6 (CHPP-6) in the Troieshchyna neighborhood had completely stopped heat generation following shelling on January 24.
