Moldova's Energocom tests sales of electricity to Ukraine

The Moldovan company Energocom announced the sale of 1 MWh of electricity to Ukraine "in test mode" on March 21. Previously, it only purchased electricity from Ukrainian producers, the company said in a statement.

During the test supply, electricity was purchased in the European Union, transported through the Moldovan energy system and sold to Ukrainian suppliers.

"The profile of JSC Energocom, as well as the recent registration on the European platform for booking electric capacities, allow the company to conduct such transactions," Energocom stated.

The company says it is currently analyzing transit procedures to be ready for any market situation.

At the beginning of February, the National Energy Regulatory Agency of Moldova canceled the ban on the export of electricity from the country, which was introduced due to a shortage and was effective from October 15, 2022.

• Ukraine began exporting electricity to the European Union in the summer of 2022, and it quickly became one of the main export goods. Since October 11, 2022, due to Russian strikes on the energy system, exports have stopped.
• Since February 12, there has been no shortage of electricity in Ukraine thanks to a combination of factors: the capacity of all nuclear power plants, warm weather, flooding on the Dnipro, and imports from Europe.
