On Sunday, August 10, Russian occupation forces damaged the External Crisis Center of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant during a strike on Zaporizhzhia. No staff members were injured, but the building sustained partial destruction, the Ministry of Energy reported on Monday.

The center plays a critical role in the plant’s safety system, continuously monitoring radiation levels in the areas outside the occupied zone. This is particularly important because the occupation authorities have blocked the automatic transmission of nuclear status data via the International Atomic Energy Agency’s IRMIS system.

"Once again, the Russians are proving that their actions pose a real threat to nuclear safety — not only for Ukraine but for the entire European continent," said Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk in response to the shelling.

Ukraine is demanding the full demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the return of the facility to its legitimate operator, Energoatom.

On the evening of August 10, Russian forces dropped two guided aerial bombs on Zaporizhzhia, one of which landed near the city’s central bus station. The ZNPP External Crisis Center is located nearby.

  • On the night of August 6, 2025, Russia carried out a targeted attack on the compressor station of Ukraine’s Gas Transmission System Operator in the Odesa region, near the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
