On Wednesday, May 14, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal introduced the new CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine — Serhiy Koretsky, who has led both Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta since 2022.

According to the government’s press service, Shmyhal outlined five key priorities for Naftogaz:

→ preparing for the upcoming heating season to ensure uninterrupted light and heat for Ukrainian households;
→ accumulating sufficient gas reserves in storage facilities for the autumn-winter period;
→ swiftly and efficiently restoring gas infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks;
→ increasing domestic gas production to meet internal demand;
→ developing distributed energy generation to reduce vulnerabilities from Russian strikes and to expand energy capacity.

Shmyhal emphasized that results are expected from the new CEO in each of these areas. He stressed that Naftogaz plays a critical role in ensuring Ukraine’s stability, and therefore the company must operate more efficiently to safeguard the nation’s energy security and the well-being of its citizens.

  • Koretsky was selected as CEO of Naftogaz following a competitive selection process. He replaces Oleksiy Chernyshov, who was recently appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for National Unity. Chernyshov had served as CEO of Naftogaz since November 4, 2022.
