The EU allowed Ukraine to increase electricity exports
The operators of electricity transmission systems in Ukraine's neighboring countries have agreed to increase the maximum capacity of electricity exports from Ukraine and Moldova by 250 MW to 900 MW. This was reported by on the website of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
"Increasing the maximum export capacity is an important step that will facilitate the balancing of the Ukrainian energy system. It will also allow Ukrainian power plants to earn additional profit, which will allow them to allocate additional resources to eliminate the consequences of Russian shelling and prepare for winter," said Minister Herman Galushchenko .
Ukraine exports electricity only when there is a surplus of capacity in the power system.
The new limit is valid until August 1. The maximum export capacity will then be reviewed on a monthly basis. In the process of weekly assessment of the grid condition, the export capacity may be adjusted in accordance with operational security requirements.
- From May 1, the maximum capacity of electricity exports from Ukraine and Moldova to the EU was 650 MW according to the decision of the ENTSO-E expert group .
- Now the decision on the allowed export capacity to the EU from the Ukraine-Moldova zone will be calculated by the transmission system operators, that are part of the Eastern European capacity calculation region, namely Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Moldova.
- The authorized limit of electricity imports by Ukraine is set at 2.1 GW.
