Trump administration lifts restrictions on drilling in Alaska
Trump administration reverses Biden's environmental restrictions and reopens Alaska's oil and gas reserve for intensive development
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has finally lifted the restrictions imposed by his predecessor Joe Biden on oil and gas production in Alaska. This was reported by US Secretary of the Interior Doug Bergam.
This includes more than 9 million hectares of the National Oil and Gas Reserve in northern Alaska.
The abolition of restrictions returns the regulatory framework to the 1977 version, which was much more liberal for the extractive industry.
"By repealing the 2024 rule, we are fulfilling President Trump's directive to unlock Alaska's energy potential, create jobs for North Slope communities, and strengthen U.S. energy security," the Secretary said .
- In 2025, US oil production reached a historic high of 13.8 million barrels per day, while the average production level from 1920 to 2025 was 6.5 million barrels per day.
