Ukrenergo resumes the automation of substations after a break due to the war
The national energy company Ukrenergo has announced the resumption of the substation automation program, which was suspended with the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022. This was stated by the company's investment director Oleg Pavlenko at the German-Ukrainian economic forum, reports Ukrinform.
"We are returning to the substation automation program, which was actively implemented before the start of the Great War. It is about the modernization of all our assets at the substation level. Unfortunately, this process had to be put on hold for 2.5 years," Pavlenko noted.
He emphasized that further delay in automation could create serious risks for the stable operation of the electricity transmission system.
In addition, the company focuses on increasing the capacity of interstate electricity connections, which should compensate for the losses of thermal generation.
Pavlenko also said that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrenergo has received support from international partners in the amount of 1.3 billion euros. In particular, the Credit Institution for Reconstruction (KFW) provided about 350 million euros, a large part of which was in the form of grants. These funds were used to purchase equipment and strengthen the protection of electrical substations.
- In August, Ukrenergo completed the construction of the first phase of anti-drone protection of high-voltage equipment at 41 company facilities. At another 22 Ukrenergo facilities, the State Rehabilitation Agency was completing the construction of the first stage of protection.
