PJSC Ukrnafta has officially received a special permit to develop the Oleska hydrocarbon field, located in the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. The field was previously owned by Chevron Ukraine B.V. and Nadra Oleska LLC since 2014. The relevant Order No. 164/2025 was signed by the Head of the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine, Oleh Hotsynets, on May 12.

The transfer of rights was carried out in accordance with the production sharing agreement and a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Ukrnafta is the largest oil producer in Ukraine, holding over 80 special permits for hydrocarbon production and operating the country's largest network of 545 filling stations. As of March 1, 2025, the company extracted oil and gas from 1,810 oil wells and 161 gas wells.

Chevron had originally planned to invest $350 million in gas exploration in Ukraine, with total projected production investments exceeding $10 billion. The company also intended to create up to 15,000 jobs.

Annual production from the Oleska site was projected at 8–10 billion cubic meters of gas.

However, in 2014, Chevron unilaterally withdrew from the project and subsequently announced the termination of its operations in Ukraine.

  • On April 8, the Cabinet of Ministers approved tenders for two additional oil and gas subsoil sites in western Ukraine: Mezhyhirska and Svichanska.
