"The airport today! We looked at the terminal windows. They are still in place, but without glass. The remains of the frames, made of a soft aluminum alloy, are deformed and under the rubble," the post reads.

The administration invited those who care about the airport to join the debris clearing and garbage cleanup efforts left after the liberation from the occupiers. Those who wish to join should contact the Kherson Regional Employment Center.

The territory of the airport was captured by the Russians at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The Russians tried to use this place as a foothold for further advancement into other regions of Ukraine. The occupiers placed military equipment on its territory and stored shells and ammunition there.

As they retreated, the occupiers blew up several places that had been set up for the stay of military personnel, leaving behind destroyed buildings, equipment, ammunition, etc.

The circumstances of the destruction of Kherson International Airport are being investigated within the framework of a criminal proceeding for violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Before the Russian invasion, the runway at Kherson Airport was being reconstructed as part of the Big Construction program. It was ready to receive passenger aircraft Boeing 737 and Airbus 321.

Regular flights were operated from Kherson to Kyiv, Istanbul, and Tbilisi. It also serviced charter flights.
