The cars belong to rolling stock of the 81-717 series, which is also used in the Kyiv metro.
"Above all, they will be used as technical donors for capital repairs of the existing rolling stock," said Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko.
About 80% of the rolling stock of the Kyiv metro is Soviet-made, similar cars were also used in the Warsaw metro.
The fleet of cars of CE Kyiv Metropoliten consists of 821 cars of various models and years of production, of which 656 are Soviet cars. From 2014 to 2017, work was carried out on the modernization of 135 units with the funds of the Kyoto Protocol.
Also, 30 cars produced by PJSC Kryukiv Railway Car Building Works run on the lines of the Kyiv metro.
The Metro Warszawskie company still has at its disposal 90 trains of the 81 series, which form the basis of the rolling stock of the Kyiv metro. Once these trains dominated the tunnels of the Polish capital, but over time they were gradually replaced by French Alstom, German Siemens, and Polish Inspiro.
