Kyiv bought a rotary parking garage, never installed it, and scrapped it after it rusted
Kyiv police are investigating the write-off of a rotary parking garage designed for ten cars that was purchased in 2017 but never installed and eventually became unusable.
The criminal case is being handled by the Podilskyi District Police Department, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office said. The parking system was bought by the Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Transport Infrastructure for UAH 3.6 million.
The 15-meter-high automated parking facility was initially planned to be installed in the courtyard of the Kyiv City State Administration building and later near Zhytniy Market. However, officials ultimately failed to determine a suitable location.
"Later, it turned out that none of the KCSA departments needed the parking facility, and no decision was made on where to install it. Over time, the unassembled metal structures deteriorated and rusted, making operation impossible, which led to the write-off," the prosecutor’s office said.
According to investigators, with proper use and maintenance, the metal structures of such a parking system could have remained operational for at least 15 years.
As part of the investigation, the former head of the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration has been formally notified of suspicion of official negligence under Part 2 of Article 367 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.
