Kyiv needs UAH 68 billion to launch a new metro line – the city will apply for a loan
At its meeting on September 25, the Kyiv City Council will consider a draft decision to secure funding from international financial organizations for the construction of the first six stations of the new Podilsko-Vyhurivska subway line. This is reported in the agenda of the meeting.
Draft decision #403 was submitted by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
"According to preliminary estimates, the construction of a section of the Podilsko-Vyhurivska subway line—from Hlybochytska station to Rayduzhna station, including a branch toward the Vyhurivshchyna-Troyeshchyna residential area—requires UAH 68 billion," the explanatory note states.
For comparison, in 2024 the Kyiv Metro signed a contract for the construction of two new stations on the Syretsko-Pecherska line for UAH 13.8 billion.
The new decision by the Kyiv City Council will allow the Kyiv City State Administration to begin negotiations with international financial organizations to secure a loan for construction.
Kyiv also expects to receive technical assistance, sectoral guidance, and project monitoring support from international partners.
On September 16, the Kyiv City State Administration announced its intention to start building the first stations of the new subway line after the completion of the Podilskyi Bridge to Podil.
The planned Podilsko-Vyhurivska line will run across Kyiv—from the Ring Road to the Vyhurivshchyna-Troyeshchyna residential area. The Kyiv City State Administration currently refers to the first stage, which will include six stations (Hlybochytska, Podilska on the right bank, Rayduzhna on the left bank, and three additional stations integrated into the bridge structures), including two transfer points: to the green line (Lukyanivska – Hlybochytska) and to the blue line (Tarasa Shevchenko – Podilska).
In the future, the line is planned to be extended as follows:
- From Rayduzhna station to Bratislavska Street with an electric depot;
- From Hlybochytska station to Solomianska Square;
- From Rayduzhna station toward Troyeshchyna, connecting to the electric depot;
- From Solomianska Square toward the Ring Road, connecting to the electric depot.
