Mercedes-Benz is falling further behind BMW in electric vehicle sales. Last year, the German automaker sold 168,800 fully electric vehicles, down 9% from 2024. BMW, on the other hand, increased its electric vehicle sales by 3.6% to 442,072 units. About this reports Bloomberg.

The divergent sales trends highlight the challenges for Mercedes Chief Executive Ola Kallenius, who is seeking to prove the company's ability to compete in the transition to electric vehicles.

Next year will be a test of Kallenius' strategy to push Mercedes into the premium segment, as the company faces the expansion of Chinese automakers and volatile consumer sentiment in Asia and Europe.

Despite some successes in 2025, including record sales of the G-Class SUV, Mercedes is struggling with US tariffs and increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers, who are actively moving into the luxury car segment.

Mercedes' total sales in 2025 fell 9% to 1.8 million, one of the company's weakest annual figures in recent years. Deliveries in China fell 19% due to the growth of domestic brands.
