Russian drones attacked railway infrastructure in Ukraine’s Sumy region overnight on February 5, according to Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territorial Development.

"This is another act of terrorism against Ukrainian logistics. The enemy is trying to disrupt train traffic," Kuleba said in a social media post.

In Shostka district, a railway station attendant on her way to work came under fire and was injured. She was promptly provided with medical assistance.

The strike also damaged a "Carriage of Unbreakability," a mobile heating and support unit used to assist civilians. At the time of the attack, people were sheltering and were not injured.

Railway energy infrastructure in Shostka district was also deliberately targeted.

Separately, Russian drones struck a railway station in Okhtyrka district, damaging technical facilities and tracks. Emergency repairs are currently under way.

  • Earlier, on the evening of January 27, Russian forces hit a passenger train in the Kharkiv region with three drones. The train, operating on route No. 47/103 Barvinkove–Lviv–Chop, was attacked while in motion. As of January 28, five people were reported killed, two injured, and one person missing.
  • Following that incident, Ukrzaliznytsia significantly restricted rail traffic in frontline regions.
