President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 50% duty on Canadian aircraft sold in the United States and to deprive new aircraft manufactured in this country of certification. The American president wrote about this on Truth Social.

"Based on the fact that Canada has wrongfully and persistently refused to certify the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 jets, which are among the most outstanding and technologically advanced aircraft ever built, we hereby revoke the certification of the Bombardier Global Express and all aircraft manufactured in Canada," Trump wrote.

Trump said that Canada actually bans the sale of Gulfstream products under the same certification procedure.

"If for some reason this situation is not immediately corrected, I am going to levy a 50% tariff on all aircraft sold to the United States of America," he added.

Bombardier responds with a response said it had taken note of Trump's post and was in contact with the Canadian government.

"We hope that this situation will be resolved quickly to avoid significant impact on air traffic and passengers," the statement said.

Trump was particularly critical of Bombardier's Global Express. However, it is the CRJ family of regional jets represented by this manufacturer that is widely used by American air carriers, notes Bloomberg.

Last year, the American Airlines Group's regional fleet consisted of about 200 such aircraft, and Delta Air Lines' regional partners had almost 180 CRJs.

  • Trump's move is yet another escalation of tensions with one of the United States' largest trading partners. on January 24, the US President threatened to impose a 100% duty on Canadian goods if the country signs a trade agreement with China.
  • This is how Trump reacted for a speech prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Carney called on leaders to unite to resist Trump's "America First" doctrine and his efforts to destroy the post-World War II international order.
  • Subsequently, US President withdrew the invitation Carney to his Peace Council.
