Ukraine has slipped one position to 14th in the global ranking of the top 40 pig iron-producing countries, as reported by the industry association Ukrmetallurgprom, citing data from Worldsteel.

In January 2025, Ukraine produced 0.56 million tons of pig iron, marking a 7.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Globally, metallurgical companies produced 112.33 million tons of pig iron in January.

Ukraine maintained its 20th position among 71 steel-producing countries, increasing steel production by 12.2% year-over-year to 0.61 million tons in January.

Global steel production reached 151.39 million tons, a 4.4% decrease from January 2024.

Despite the global decline, Ukraine continues to lead the world in growth rates for pig iron and steel production.

In 2024, Ukraine increased its production of pig iron, steel, and rolled products.

However, on February 11, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump revoked Ukraine's temporary exemption from steel import tariffs, impacting companies like Metinvest and Interpipe.
