Germany to build wind farm around Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant
During her visit to Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbokc, signed a Ukrainian-German memorandum on the intention to build a wind power plant in the vicinity of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, reported the German news outlet tagesschau.
"Green electricity from Chornobyl is the future version of the world," the agency quoted the German Foreign Minister during the signing of the document at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
During her visit to Ukraine, the German minister visited a large power plant 50 km from Kyiv, which was repeatedly attacked by Russian missiles and drones.
The energy facility was seriously damaged in the winter, but it has already been completely restored. Now it is surrounded by high barriers that protect against drones.
On September 14, 2022, the UN confirmed that Russia destroyed almost all wind energy facilities in Ukraine.
On August 15, 2023, due to damage on Belarusian territory, the transmission line to the Chornobyl NPP was disconnected.
On September 1, the first wind farm owned by businessman Rinat Akhmetov pulled out of the government's "green tariff" subsidy program.
