95% drop: Ukraine reduces electricity imports to minimum in March

Ukraine reduced electricity imports in March 2023, compared to the previous month, by 95% to 7,000 MWh, specialized publication ExPro reported.

Almost 5,500 MWh were supplied from Slovakia in March, and 1,500 MWh from Moldova.

In February, the volume of electricity imports from Slovakia amounted to 136,500 MWh, which is 2.18 times more than the volume of January. Imports reached record levels on February 3-6 — about 10,000-11,000 MWh per day. Also in February, 5,300 MWh was supplied from Moldova.

In total, 141,800 MWh were imported in February.

The weighted average price for the Slovakia-Ukraine route, according to ExPro, was $179.5/MWh.

In general, the import of electricity to Ukraine remains at an insignificant level, since there is a surplus in the energy system during the last month, there is no need for an additional resource.

On March 28, Ukraine notified the EU of its readiness to resume electricity exports.

On March 29, the EU increased the transmission capacity for electricity with Ukraine by 20%.
