Russia’s latest air strike on the Sumy region, in eastern Ukraine, has left a power substation severely damaged, with no casualties reported, the energy ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

As a result of the attack, more than 4,000 consumers in the Sumy region have been cut off from electricity.

In addition, Russian shelling also damaged distribution networks in the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. Repairs are being carried out with regards to the security situation, the energy ministry added.

Overall, electricity generation in Ukraine is sufficient to cover domestic consumption, Ukraine’s state energy company Ukrenergo said in a separate statement.

It added that sunny weather and high water levels contributed to the active operation of hydroelectric and renewable energy plants, helping offset the decrease in generation by thermal and nuclear power plants, which are on repair.

In other developments, Ukraine continues electricity exports to Moldova, whereas Poland refused them due to lower consumption during the long holidays.

Last month, Ukrenergo warned that electricity shortages could return in the summer.
