Ukraine imports record amount of electricity in April

Ukraine imported 225,000 MWh of electricity in April, which is the highest figure since the beginning of the current year, reported the press service of the state energy trader Energy Company of Ukraine.

Compared to March, the volume of commercial imports in April increased by a third.

In April, ECU increased the volume of imports by 1.5 times. The company imported electricity from Hungary and Romania. ECU ranks second in the volume of electricity imports among all suppliers.

"Ukraine maintains a certain reserve for the further increase of imports. In case of an increase in demand, ECU will respond to it in order to support the energy system and stable power supply to consumers," commented Vitaliy Butenko, CEO of ECU.

Ukraine has sharply increased its electricity imports since the end of March, when Russia intensified its attacks on energy facilities.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, Russia's attacks damaged half of Ukraine's energy system.

The Russian attack on the energy sector on April 27 was the fourth largest attack after the strikes on March 22, 29 and April 11. The aggressor launched missile attacks on energy facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv oblasts. As a result of the impact, equipment at four thermal power plants was seriously damaged.

On May 3, the National Bank of Ukraine announced that they expect a quick and significant increase in electricity tariffs.
