The German government has provided EUR 700,000 in grants to Ukrainian telecoms companies to restore the Internet in Ukraine’s liberated territories, Ukraine’s digital transformation minister Mykhailo Fedorov said on Tuesday.

"The goal is to restore the Internet infrastructure in the de-occupied territories so that Ukrainians can communicate with their families, work and study online," he posted on social media.

Up to EUR 10,000 will be provided to 70 telecoms companies operating in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Luhansk regions, with the exception of Kyiv.

The funds can be spent on equipment and materials, payment of electricity bills, rent payments, payments required for the maintenance of grids, and employee salaries.

To receive a grant, providers must apply by 30 November.

The grant funds are allocated under the ReACT4UA/EU4Business international cooperation programme.
