Polish protesters jam fourth major border crossing in Poland-Ukraine standoff

Tensions are mounting at the Poland-Ukraine border as freight traffic has now been disrupted at a fourth key crossing point. According to a statement from Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, protesters have blocked cargo vehicle passage on the roadfront of Poland's Medyka checkpoint—located directly opposite Ukraine's Shehyni border post.

Traffic is blocked both for exiting and entering Poland.

Traffic blocking may continue from November 23 to 26, the SBGS explains.

The organizers of the blockade allow only buses and cars to pass.

Earlier, the leader of Polish carriers Rafal Mekler from the far-right National Movement announced the blockade of the "Medyka-Shehyni" checkpoint from Thursday.

Polish farmers have also joined the protest at this crossing.

"Medyka-Shehyni" is the fourth checkpoint blocked by Polish protesters. Since November 6, the crossing of the border for freight transport has been practically stopped at "Yahodyn-Dorohusk", "Krakivets-Korczowa" and "Rava-Ruska-Hrebenne".

According to the calculations of the European Business Association, on average, one day of blocking checkpoints on the Polish border costs one company losses in the amount of about 1 million hryvnias ($28,000). Cumulative losses exceeded 300 million hryvnias ($8.3 million).

Due to the blockade of the border with Poland, the price of liquefied gas in Ukraine has already increased by 30%.

On Thursday, the second Ukrainian truck driver died in line at the Polish border.
