Berdychiv mayor released on bail in bribery case
The mayor of Berdychiv, Zhytomyr region, Serhiy Orliuk, who is suspected of bribery, was granted bail in the amount of UAH 242,000

The mayor of Berdychiv, Serhiy Orliuk, who is suspected of accepting a bribe, has been released on bail amounting to UAH 242,000 (nearly $6,000). The Korolevskyi District Court of Zhytomyr confirmed this to Ukrinform.
"On June 21, the court imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention with the option of release on bail, set at 80 times the subsistence minimum for able-bodied individuals. On June 23, bail was posted in the amount of UAH 242,240," the court stated.
The court added that the mayor was released from custody after the bail was paid.
Orliuk was detained on Friday, June 20. According to investigators, he allegedly demanded a bribe in exchange for granting permission to install two temporary trade kiosks in the city.
- Serhiy Orliuk has served as the mayor of Berdychiv since December 1, 2020. From 2007 to 2020, he was the head and chief veterinarian at his private veterinary clinic "Aibolit." He previously served as a deputy of the Zhytomyr Regional Council (7th convocation) and as a member of the Berdychiv City Council during its 5th and 6th convocations.
