Illegal kaolin mining uncovered in Cherkasy region: 14,000 tons in almost three years

Illegal mining of minerals of national importance, worth almost 190 million hryvnias, has been uncovered in the Zvenyhorod district of Cherkasy region. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General and the National Police.
According to the prosecutor's office, the director of a structural unit of one of the local enterprises is involved in organizing the scheme, and he has been notified of suspicion.
According to the investigation, between November 2020 and March 2023, the official organized large-scale illegal extraction of secondary kaolins.
It is noted that the work was carried out in violation of the law. In particular, the area of mineral extraction exceeded the limits of the special permit for subsoil use and the contour of the reserve calculation.
In total, over almost three years, approximately 14,000 tons of minerals were illegally extracted, worth 190 million hryvnias.




The company director is accused of illegal extraction of minerals of national importance using his official position, which caused serious consequences (Part 4, Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The official faces up to eight years in prison. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is currently being decided.
