Ukraine sees first case of reverse relocation: Polish factory reopens in Chernihiv

Ukrainian group Textile-Contact has begun commissioning equipment from the bankrupt Polish textile factory MPM Zakład Specjalistyczny, which it acquired and relocated to Chernihiv, Ukraine. According to Dmytro Kysylevskyi, deputy chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development, this marks the first known case of reverse relocation — the transfer of industrial production from the EU to Ukraine.
"The Chernihiv-based plant TK DT-Chernihiv, part of the Textile-Contact Group, has launched 25% of the equipment from MPM Zakład Specjalistyczny, which was moved from Kudowa-Zdrój to Ukraine. In particular, machinery for digital printing on 260 cm-wide bed linen is now fully operational in Chernihiv. Previously, no such products were manufactured in Ukraine," Kysylevskyi wrote on Facebook.
The total investment in launching the equipment amounted to approximately UAH 7 million, while its purchase cost €1.4 million.
The remaining 75% of the equipment is expected to be commissioned in 2026.
Installation work has been complicated by the refusal of European technicians to travel to the border region to perform calibration and setup.
- Textile-Contact is Ukraine’s largest light industry manufacturer. In 2024, the company received a grant to establish a knitting workshop and acquired a shoe factory in Chyhyryn. In March 2025, it also launched the production of synthetic insulation materials.
