German clothing manufacturer Gerry Weber closes all stores – the brand was bought out by the Spaniards

Bankrupt German clothing manufacturer Gerry Weber is closing all its stores in Germany and other countries, according to German magazine Spiegel.
The brand was bought by the Spanish family-owned company Victrix, which owns the fashion brand Punt Roma.
There are currently over 40 Gerry Weber stores and outlets operating in Germany, but over the next few months they will all be closed, as will stores in other countries.
Instead, Victrix plans to keep the Gerry Weber brand, but its products will be sold in Germany through sales partners who also sell other brands. In addition, the Spanish company will take over full production.
Gerry Weber has been in crisis for several years. In 2023, the company closed 122 of its 171 stores and laid off 450 employees, but this did not bring the desired result.
"Gerry Weber fits perfectly into our core Punt Roma brand. Thus, we are expanding our position in the mid-price segment, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, where Gerry Weber has a good reputation," said the management of Victrix Group.
The Gerry Weber situation is another example of the crisis in the German fashion industry, which has been exacerbated by rising electricity, rent and wage costs, as well as declining consumer purchasing power.
Recently, major players such as Galeria, Esprit, and Sinn have declared bankruptcy.
- In September 2024, it was reported that German clothing manufacturer and distributor Gerry Weber was preparing to begin supplying four brands of the German Ultimo Fashion Group to Russia.
