Altman: Meta tried to lure OpenAI employees by offering bonuses of up to $100 million

Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Corporation tried to lure OpenAI employees by offering them bonuses of up to $100 million for signing a contract, as well as even larger annual compensation packages, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said, CNBC reports.

According to Altman, Meta wanted to lure many people from OpenAI, but none of the company's top specialists have agreed yet.

"I've heard that Meta sees us as their biggest competitor. Their current efforts to create artificial intelligence haven't yielded the expected results, but I respect the desire to act aggressively and look for new paths," Altman said.

Zuckerberg is personally leading the creation of a team to develop a "superintelligence"-level AI system.

The company has already invested billions of dollars in its own research lab, Meta AI, which, in particular, develops open Llama artificial intelligence models.

Last week, it became known that Meta acquired 49% of the startup Scale AI for $14.3 billion. Its founder Alexander Wang joined Meta along with part of the team.

In addition, Meta recently lured Jack Ray, a leading researcher at DeepMind (a division of Google).
