Politico: France wants to officially recognize X Mask's social network as a porn platform
The French government is considering officially recognizing Elon Musk's Twitter as a platform with pornographic content, Politico reports.
This would mean that the social network would be required to implement strict age verification for users, like all porn sites in France.
"X has been allowing the distribution of pornographic content since 2024. Accordingly, it should be classified as a porn site," the office of French Digital Minister Clara Chappaz said.
The Shappaz team was tasked with "studying the purpose of X in the decree on pornographic sites that must verify the age of their users."
On the French TV show Quotidien, the minister said that X would soon receive "the same good papers as YouPorn" – that is, an order to either ban adult content or introduce age verification.
France has already tightened its online protections for children. All adult content sites operating in the country were required to introduce age verification by June 7.
In case of refusal, platforms may receive fines, be removed from search engines, or be blocked completely.
