Ukraine's Ambassador to Moldova Paun Rogovey said that the project to build a bridge across the Dniester has faced financial difficulties, but has not been stopped. He said this in an interview with NewsMaker .

"The Kosciutz-Yampil bridge is a huge and very expensive project. The work was not stopped, but there were some problems with financing. Now both sides are actively looking for new sources of funding," the diplomat said .

The cost of the project was previously estimated at UAH 3.4 billion.

The Ambassador said that the bridge is of strategic importance for both countries, so he is confident in the project's implementation.

"The main thing is the political will of both countries and mutual economic interest, so I am confident that this project will be implemented in the near future," Rogovey said .

Regarding the recently announced project of the Ungheni-Chisinau-Odesa highway, the Ambassador noted that it is only planning at the level of ideas.

"This highway should become part of a transport corridor that will connect Ukraine and Moldova with the European Union and the civilized world," the diplomat explained. He expressed confidence that as the two countries move along the European path, opportunities to implement this project will arise quickly enough .

  • A cross-border bridge across the Dniester will connect the Moldovan village of Cosăuc and the Ukrainian city of Yampil. The bridge will become an alternative to the ferry crossing at the Yampil-Koseuts border crossing, which has not been operating for several years.
  • The bridge will also relieve the Mohyliv-Podilskyi-Otaci international checkpoint, through which almost all traffic between Ukraine and Moldova passes.
  • Thanks to the bridge, Ukrainian exporters will get the shortest route from the center of Ukraine to the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe, bypassing Russian-occupied Transnistria.
  • The governments of Ukraine and Moldova signed an agreement on the construction of a road bridge across the Dniester on June 12, 2023.
  • The total length of the bridge will be two kilometers. It will have two lanes with sidewalks on both sides.
